At this point I figured the story, dark as it was, was still engaging and kept me interested enough that I wanted to see her rescued. Okay, I continued on to book two, and read on as our poor heroine was forced to endure the realities of human trafficking, rape, and everything that goes with it. I was pretty satisfied near the ending of book one - Z got the girl, she accepted him into her life, she solved the mystery of who murdered her grandmother, it was all wrapped up in a neat little bow.
